GAME CONCEPTS - Change

THE LONG TREK

This game comments on intergeneration change, the difference in living conditions between myself and the time in which my father was a child. Through these years, there has been a strong societal shift from small rural communities to large densely populated urban areas. We live now in a place of heightened interconnectedness and increased accessibility were we are experiencing time space convergence. This vastly contrasts the tales my father recounts from his childhood. Ie. He would engage in long "treacherous" 10km hike over the empty hills of Rosseta  simply to reach his school on a daily basis. These stories were often largely exaggerated, dramatized and often recounted to prove a point ahah but nonetheless hold a truth of societal change.  This  story is something which I believe a lot of people can relate to.

This game seeks to capture the essence of this story playing into the dramatized elements and hyper exaggerated "the long trek" to school.

In this game, you will attempt to reach the top of a mountain where your school awaits.

I could see this game lending itself to one of two genres:

1.  Slow paced hike journey, much like A Short Hike (Although on a much smaller scale).

or

2. It would also be the perfect context for an endless runner type game.

GALAXY MOWER

The last idea is one that I think ties least strong to the theme of change but instead prioritises a strong identity and chaotic goofy ah gameplay experience. This is Xtreme intergalactic Mower...

You are tasked with maintaining the lawns of the universe. Travel to various strange planets, with differing challenges and inhabitants to bring tidiness to the lawns.

You as the player have the capacity to influence and change your environment. By travelling over grass materials you will be able to mow them leaving them clean. Some inhabitants of the universe will resist this change and attempt to prevent you in your quest for grassy aesthetic satisfaction.

The gravity/planet system is strongly inspired by that of super Mario Galaxy and even in this prototype state is incredibly fun and satisfying to manoeuvre around with. The lack of strong connection to the theme may prevent me from continuing development of this in this course, however, I will probably continue refining this outside of class. :0
